Shogun Yachts was founded in Stockholm in 2019 with one clear idea: build a full carbon racer-cruiser that actually goes as fast as it looks, then make it sailable by two. Oscar and Håkan Södergren designed both boats in the range, the Shogun 43 and the Shogun 50, with the same uncompromising brief: light displacement, deep carbon-bulb lifting keels, and a deck layout that puts every control within reach of a short-handed crew.

The 43 has already taken consecutive doublehanded line honours, including the Princess Sofia Cup and Gotland Runt, and scored an EYOTY 2024 nomination along the way. The 50 tips the scales at 7.9 tonnes with 45 per cent of that sitting in the keel bulb, which tells you everything about where the priorities lie. Since 2025, both hulls are built in Jakobstad, Finland, by OQS, next door to Nautor Swan and Baltic. Two boats, one philosophy: not here to fit in, here to take the spotlight.

Consecutive line honours. The results speak.

The Shogun 43 has taken doublehanded line honours in the Princess Sofia Cup and Gotland Runt, back to back, then added an EYOTY 2024 nomination for good measure. These are not club-race trophies: they are hard offshore miles against serious competition, sailed two-up in full carbon. When the race committee calls the results, Shogun Yachts is the name at the top.

Carbon from cabin to keel blade, no compromises

On both the Shogun 43 and the Shogun 50, carbon is not a marketing word, it is the whole structure: hull, deck, keel blade, and on the 50, the rig too. The result is a boat light enough to accelerate hard the moment the breeze fills in, yet stiff enough to hold that angle all the way to the horizon. Concentrate 45 per cent of the Shogun 50's displacement in a deep carbon-epoxy bulb and you get righting moment that would embarrass boats twice the size, without a gram of dead weight anywhere it does not earn its keep.

03Two Up, Offshore

Race hard. Eat well. Sleep properly.

A Shogun is not asking you to choose between the racecourse and the trip home. The 43 and the 50 are laid out so two people can fly a kite, drive through a gybe and hold pace with boats carrying twice the crew, then step below to a galley that works at sea, a salon with three skylights overhead and cabins built with the same obsessive weight-saving as the hull above them.

04Design Bloodline

Fifty years of instinct, one shared brief

Håkan Södergren drew his first successful race and cruise designs before Oscar was born. Oscar went to industrial design school and brought the kind of thinking that shapes cars and consumer products back into the studio. Together, for Shogun Yachts, they threw out the traditional model where hull, deck and interior get handed off separately between different specialists, and designed both the 43 and the 50 as single, integrated objects: every line, every ergonomic choice, every carbon panel resolved as one system from the start. The results look like nothing else in a marina.

Shogun Yachts is a Stockholm-based Swedish builder founded in 2019, producing two full carbon-epoxy racer-cruisers: the Shogun 43 and the Shogun 50. Designed by father and son Håkan and Oscar Södergren, both boats are built to be sailed fast and short-handed, with enough below to actually live on between races.

Shogun Yachts are built for sailors who want real offshore speed without handing the helm over to a crew, which means a couple, a solo hand or anyone who has decided that slow is not an option. The whole range is optimised for doublehanded sailing: systems led aft, sail plans manageable by two, interiors that still cook a proper dinner when the racing is done.

Shogun Yachts builds in full carbon-epoxy from deck to keel, and then drops a deep carbon-bulb lifting keel underneath it, so the boat is both light enough to race on handicap and shallow enough to duck into a harbour when you are ready to stop. The Shogun 43 has taken consecutive doublehanded line honours including the Princess Sofia Cup and Gotland Runt, and picked up an EYOTY 2024 nomination: this is race-proven pedigree, not a brochure claim.

Shogun Yachts are now built by OQS in Jakobstad, Finland, next door to Nautor Swan and Baltic, having moved from Rosättra in Sweden in 2025. The company itself remains Stockholm-based and Swedish in its design, DNA and attitude.

Both the Shogun 50 and the Shogun 43 carry a deep carbon-bulb lifting keel that retracts hydraulically at the touch of a button: the Shogun 50 goes from 3.5 metres of racing draft down to 2 metres for the marina approach, with 45 per cent of its 7.9-tonne displacement sitting in that bulb. That weight low and deep is what makes the boat stiff and fast upwind; the ability to pull it up is what makes the same boat genuinely cruiseable.
