Introducing the ‘good mood yacht’

The new YYachts Y8, a reinvented version of the iconic maiden model, embodies the essence of extensive sailing experience. Developed in collaboration with Surge Projects, the Mallorcan design studio led by Javier Jaudenes, the Y8 showcases a timelessly elegant design combined with high-speed potential. With a wider stern and a mast set further back, the Y8 incorporates advanced R&D insights to ensure a fast and safe sailing experience under any conditions. Described as a “good-mood yacht,” the Y8 promises a fun and exhilarating journey on the water.

Key features include a transverse garage in the stern, a self-tacking jib, separate crew access in the cockpit, and a flat deckhouse with strategically placed windows to minimize heat buildup. The Y8 also offers 20% more interior volume than its predecessors, allowing for various layout options. By positioning the engine room under the saloon floor, the yacht achieves a lower center of gravity, enhancing balance and speed.

Hear from the The Creative Forces that shaped the Y8

Italian-born Francesca Modica has been a key member of the design team since early 2020 and is now the Managing Director of the Palma de Mallorca office. Francesca, who holds two master’s degrees in yacht design and architecture, joined with three years of professional experience at Lorenzo Argento Yacht Design. She has quickly risen to become the Head of Design, bringing a wealth of expertise and innovation to the team.

For the new Y8, the design and development team collaborated with Surge Projects, a renowned design studio founded by Javier Jaudenes in 2012. Javier and his team are celebrated for their award-winning designs and have developed exceptional yachts such as Win Win and the Café Racer. Their combined experience and unique design philosophies have significantly influenced the creation of the Y8, blending elegance, speed, and innovative functionality.

Sophisticated Minimalism Redefined

The Y8 salon boasts a minimalistic, open layout designed for flexibility. The lounge area includes space for a sofa on the port side and two armchairs on the starboard side, allowing clients to choose their preferred furniture. Sustainable, easy-to-clean fabrics cover all walls, complemented by ample storage in sidewall lockers and two full-height lockers dividing the seating and dining areas.

The dining area features benches along the side walls, a free-standing table, and chairs, with additional storage under the benches and in the central furniture. Thoughtful details include glass holders, leather-finished drawers, 230 V AC sockets, and various lighting options to suit any layout. Customizable armchairs, sofas, and dining chairs enhance the salon’s personalized comfort and style.

Sail Faster, Sail Easier

The Y8 is meticulously designed for enhanced performance, especially in lighter winds, with features like the absence of backstays and a square-top main sail. This 25-metre yacht balances performance, efficiency, and practicality for both long-distance cruising and racing. Concealed halyards, sheets, and extensions to the steering columns allow for comfortable operation by the helmsman and a minimal crew. Advanced rigging includes a carbon mast and boom from AXXON, modern fractional rig, self-tacking jib, and multiple halyards, ensuring ease of handling and sailing efficiency.

Constructed for superior strength and lightness, the Y8’s hull is made using a sandwich technique with CORECELLâ„¢ M-foam and E-glass for impact resistance, while the inner structure is entirely carbon fiber. The double rudder system and high-resistance steel keel blade with a lead alloy bulb provide precise control and stability. Carbon/epoxy sandwich materials reinforce the bulkheads and internal structures, with watertight bulkheads and a crash box for added safety. The carbon bow sprit and the deck, reinforced with carbon fibers, ensure exceptional structural performance and durability, making the Y8 a high-performance yet reliable yacht for sailing enthusiasts.
