Carbon Yachts Joins MERC: A Commitment to a Greener Future in Maritime Leisure

Promoting Sustainable Boating Solutions with Electric Innovation and Industry Leadership

Carbon Yachts is pleased to announce its membership in the Maritime Emissions Reduction Coalition (MERC), a collective of industry leaders dedicated to lowering maritime emissions and fostering sustainable practices. As part of this initiative, Carbon Yachts is committed to playing an active role in spreading awareness of the sustainable alternatives available to traditional combustion power, acknowledging that the transition to greener technologies is still in its early stages.

Our focus has been on highlighting the innovations and strides made by our partner brands, including Candela, Saffier Yachts, Virtue Yachts, and ASTenders. These companies are making critical advancements in electric propulsion and efficient design, bringing the future of sustainable boating to today’s market. Candela’s C-8, for example, has redefined the electric boating space with its foiling technology, offering extended range and performance while dramatically reducing environmental impact. Saffier Yachts’ SE 24 Lite has also gained recognition, showcasing how electric-powered day sailing can be both luxurious and eco-conscious.

Carbon Yachts’ approach goes beyond just promoting these products. We are committed to educating the public about the benefits and availability of sustainable options in the maritime leisure sector. This is demonstrated through our recent PR campaign that promoted the arrival of the Candela C-8 in Australia, a campaign that reached over 9 million people through features in leading media outlets such as Weekend Today, National Nine News, The Australian Financial Review, and NewsCorp publications. Through this campaign, we aimed to raise awareness not only of the Candela C-8 but also of the broader shift toward sustainable boating solutions.

Additionally, Carbon Yachts has consistently supported these efforts through our Electric Insights blog series. These blogs provide ongoing education on the developments within electric boating, highlighting both our portfolio and lifestyle stories that demonstrate how electric boating is a viable and enjoyable alternative for today’s boaters. Our goal is to connect with the public in a meaningful way, showcasing how sustainability can be integrated into everyday maritime leisure without compromising on the joy or performance of boating.

As the maritime industry globally accounts for around 2-3% of greenhouse gas emissions, it’s clear that there is much work to be done. The Australian Government’s Maritime Emissions Reduction National Action Plan highlights the urgency of adopting low- and zero-emission technologies to meet the country’s broader net-zero targets by 2050. Carbon Yachts sees its role as part of this collective effort, contributing not only through our innovative products but also through education and awareness, helping the public understand the significant benefits of making greener choices.

In joining MERC, Carbon Yachts remains committed to driving forward the transition to electric boating. By offering sustainable alternatives and consistently advocating for environmental responsibility through education and engagement, we are helping shape the future of the maritime industry—one that is cleaner, greener, and ready for the next generation of boaters.
